Some background
This is a blog about ideas, thoughts and opinions. I am interested in technology, in new experiences, in movies, music, food, health, nostalgia and lots more. I intend to share my slice of life on this blog! I have created this mostly for myself and I don’t expect many to read my posts. I’m not doing any deliberate SEO or other promotion. That said, if you have found your way here and stumble upon something which you find helpful or interesting, let me know: please leave a comment or send me an email.
My previous effort at making a blog was hosted on a Dec Alpha server in my parents house running on Linux/Apache/MySql/PHP (LAMP). It first came online in 2003 and was improved a few times. A skeleton of the final version is currently here. It consists of a mere 22 entries, the last of which was created in 2013. Even though it was made of some fairly ropey PHP, had very little consideration for security issues or data validation and overall was quite basic, I was still proud of it because it was all my own work and functioned as I expected it to.
I wanted to keep it going but I tend to spend more time doing the things I want to blog about that actually blogging about them, perhaps that’s not a bad thing but I also want something I can look back at; to record my efforts.
One of the reasons I delayed so much in keeping it going was that the content moved servers a few times and the various software versions didn’t approve of the way I had written my PHP (and with good cause!). I didn’t set aside time to do a code rewrite and with the site nonfunctional it languished.
Current site
I have finally decided that I’d rather get a blog going using an off-the-shelf option (WordPress). It’s currently hosted by valuevps. I set everything up myself but the software is not my own. Maybe one day I wil write my own site again and have it look exactly as I want, I don’t think it would have the functionality of this one though.
