Movies for the lock-down era – Demon Seed

Demon Seed 1977 - Cropped

Normal everyday life has disappeared. The UK government, as well as others all over the world, have told us that we are to remain at home, except for essential needs. Suddenly we are no longer able to enjoy the freedoms that we have previously taken for granted. It’s unsettling, alien and it’s difficult to make sense of this new reality. There are a few films which explore the reality of lock-down, one of those is sci-fi horror flick, Demon Seed which sees the safety of home becoming a prison for it’s helpless occupant.

28-Hour Day – Day 9

28-Hour Day

This day could be hard going. I’m not convinced I’ve managed to adapt to 28 hour days, so my body can’t catch up with 28 hour days, similar to jet lag. The middle of the waking time today is over night and if my brain knows this then it’s going to be tired. Add to this that I didn’t get as much sleep as would have liked and it could be that at times I will struggle.

28-Hour Day – Day 8

28-Hour Day

Another day pretty much adhering to the timeline. This time last week I was on day 2, yes it’s a 6 day week, and I found that towards the end of that day I was struggling quite a bit. Today I will find out if that was because I was getting used to a new routine or simply because humans are not supposed to live this way!

28-Hour Day – Day 7

28-Hour Day

I’m now into week 2 and back where I began on the timeline. It’s hard to know if I will experience this week differently from last week: last week I was dragging myself kicking and screaming into a new routine and this week I am slightly used to it and I know what to expect. I think it will still be a slight battle against my body’s circadian rhythms.

28-Hour Day – Day 5

28-Hour Day

It’s all unravelled at the seams, day 5 is a write-off. This routine is proving very difficult to stick to and I haven’t made it easy for myself. It’s not just me, I’m starting to realise that even during a period when social interaction is barely required and my responsibilities to anyone other that myself are at an all time low, it’s very difficult to fit a 6 day peg into a 7 day hole.

28-Hour Day – Day 4

28-Hour Day

I had a really good day yesterday in terms of feeling awake, concentrations levels and productivity. I think today will be similar as it it will start late at night and continue into normal waking hours. I did have a longer day awake yesterday so I will have to see how I am feeling by the end of the day.

28-Hour Day – Day 3

28-Hour Day

I am now immersed in this new routine. This does not necessarily mean I am getting used to it but I am definitely starting to form some ideas about the benefits and drawbacks of longer days. Still, it’s too early to draw any conclusions as I press on into day 3. What new challenges shall I face today, although I’m not even sure what day it is.. Wedthursday?

28-Hour Day – Day 2

28-Hour Day

On the second day of the routine I managed to get my timings back to where they were meant to be. I am getting into the routine but is it working for me? It’s certainly a bit of a shock to the system and can sometimes feel like a bit of struggle, then again it’s only been 2 days. It will be interesting to see if my body adapts to this.
