I’m not convinced I’ve managed to adapt to 28 hour days, so my body can’t catch up with 28 hour days, similar to jet lag. The middle of the waking time today is over night and if my brain knows this then it’s going to be tired. Add to this that I didn’t get as much sleep as would have liked and it could be that at times I will struggle.

1900. I wake a bit early. There are 2 hours left before I need to get up. Even though I was drifting off before I went to bed earlier. I attempt to get a bit more sleep until 2100 but don’t have much success.

2100. I get out of bed finally, but I think I’ve only had 7 hours of actual sleep instead of the 9 I had allocated. This may have repercussions later.

2355. I make a coffee. Not to stay awake, I just want one. It is surreal fixing up a stimulating hot beverage at this time of day.

0800. Breakfast time! Or is that lunch? Not sure but either way I feel great so far: it’s day time and that’s a great pick-me-up. I have a strong black coffee, you know, just in case.

1400. Still doing great and there are 2 hours left to bed time. I think I was in the same situation last week wherein it;s now day time and my circadian rhythms take precedence over my time away. It’s nice day and I have a few beers with house mates outside in the sun.

1600. This is my sleep time but I’m enjoying myself and don’t feel tired. The sun is shining, how can it be time for bed?

1730. I am sitting in the living room with the others and start just nodding off, much to the amusement of everyone else. It’s way past bed time but a food delivery is being ordered so I hang on a little longer to get a burger.

1900. It’s finally bed time for me, but not everyone else of course. Who would have thought that Thursday would have been the social evening. I’m 3 hours overdue for bed so set my alarm for 9 hours post bed time, rather than the time I am meant to be getting up which is 0100.

Today I felt great right past my 19 hours allocated waking time. This again suggests that my sleep cycle has de-synchronised from my circadian rhythms. It is now time to end this experiment after one last sleep.

Continue to the next article in this series.

This day could be hard going.
