This does not necessarily mean I am getting used to it but I am definitely starting to form some ideas about the benefits and drawbacks of longer days. Still, it’s too early to draw any conclusions as I press on into day 3. What new challenges shall I face today, although I’m not even sure what day it is.. Wedthursday?

1630. Just a recap from the previous article: I was scheduled to wake at 2100 but my body decided to get up a little earlier. I got up briefly and returned to bed, quickly falling back to sleep.

2100. I used my alarm to signal when to get up but I didn’t need to use snooze, I think I was already somewhat awake which isn’t totally surprising considering I’d normally think this was nowhere near bed time. Not that there is a normal anymore. I have a breakfast of pork escalope and potato wedges which is microwaved, having been prepared much earlier. It’s not great but it keeps me going.

0615. I may be starting to feel a bit sleepy. Not by much really, I feel I am able to keep going and be productive, although all I’m doing is watching Contagion. Well it’s topical and has just appeared on Netflix.

0730. I didn’t get any more sleepy and I am feeling pretty good. I had some breakfast.

0800. This is my best day yet. By this point I have been awake a mere 11 hours so I’m not really feeling sleepy yet and this routine segued nicely into a day time circadian rhythm. At least that’s what I think is happening. I feel my natural daily rhythm is sliding at least a couple of hours a day although it’s hard to say if it is catching up with the 28 hour day.

1600. This is supposed to be my bed time but I am still going. It’s been a really good day, I have not felt tired at all. I was working on some computer projects and concentration levels remained high throughout.

1750. I eventually take myself to bed but I’m not really feeling tired. It takes a while to drift off. Even though I’ve had 21 hours awake I am still alert. I probably wouldn’t want to drive or operate heavy machinery though! I do feel that this is due to the later part of my day being during normal waking hours and it will be interesting to see how I feel as my routine becomes increasingly nocturnal again.

Continue to the next article in this series.

I am now immersed in this new routine.
