I am getting into the routine but is it working for me? It’s certainly a bit of a shock to the system and can sometimes feel like a bit of struggle, then again it’s only been 2 days. It will be interesting to see if my body adapts to this.

1415. I was supposed to sleep until 1700 but I woke up early. I got up and had a wander around my room for a bit as i can’t seem to drift off again. The trouble with being asleep this time is my phone is buzzing away with messages when I am meant to be sleeping. I should have muted it. This shows a problem with not being in sync with friends and colleagues: they are active when I am not. I go back to bed after about 30 mins have manage to get some broken sleep before eventually drifting off.

1700. I wake feeling quite refreshed. I have a coffee and then some pasta chicken with potato wedges and green beans for ‘breakfast’. . Not your standard breakfast for sure. I feel wide awake all evening and can do anything I need to do and remain fully focused on it. I have certainly got at least 6 or 7 hours when I can be really productive.

0001. By midnight it really feels like I should be winding down, it is slightly unsettling that I still have 12 hours to go. I’m not tired but its been dark for a while now and usually it would be approaching bed time.

0215. I am experiencing the first waves of sleepiness. I am also feeling hungry, so it must be time for some Huel.

0430. I really feel like I should be going to bed now. It feels like its quite late and that I have been up for a long time, but in reality I’ve been awake for less than the 16 I’d normally spend awake. It took my a long time to calculate the difference between 0430 and 1700 and determine it was just over 12 hours so my mind definitely isn’t working properly.

0600. I think I am experiencing micro-sleeps. I was reading and found myself just drifting off. I decide to have some toast and have a little walk. The sun was coming up so I go for a little walk outside in the hope that the visual cue of daylight will wake me up. It does marginally but I am still feeling sleepy.

0830. I had a dinner consisting of cooked breakfast and start to feel more awake; it’s morning and its sunny. There are 3 hours until I can go bed and this could be my last food intake before sleep. I am really looking forward to going to bed which makes me think about why I am doing this. I want longer days so I can stay up and be more productive but if I just spend this time wanting to go to bed then what’s the point. On the other hand it’s good that I actually want to sleep instead of staying up when it’s well past bed time.

0940. I really don’t feel like being productive right now. I’m really looking forward to bed which is still over 2 hours away. I’m trying not to break and go to bed early.

1145. I have been watching some Netflix and completely drifting off so call it a day and go to bed for 9 glorious hours of sleep – or do i?

1630. I am wide awake and get up for a bit of a leg stretch and some fresh air. After 15 or 20 mins I return to bed and manage to get back to sleep fairly quickly.

Keep reading to see how I got on the next day.

On the second day of the routine I managed to get my timings back to where they were meant to be.
